Division of Network Management
The mission of the Division of Network Management is to plan, build, manage, and maintain the campus network. It also supports key exhibitions of the University, such as the Rhododendron Fair. Apart from supporting the University in building a full-scale information network, the division also actively provides technical consultation and services including DNS, web proxy, ftp, BBS, netnews, dial-up connections, ADSL, and wireless networks etc. It is in charge of the affairs of TANet in the Taipei district network center, providing TANet connections to universities, colleges, and high schools in the northern Taiwan with unremitting technical support and consulting services. In coordination with the ¡§Inter-conNe(c)ting¡¨ program of colleges, high schools and primary schools as well as with the application of multimedia visual network launched by the Ministry of Education, the division also takes on itself continuous distance broadcasting of the annual Universities Expo.
Affairs
- Plan for campus network environment to support teaching, research, and administration,
- Provide WWW network system and related services for faculty, staffs, and students,
- Integrate the campus network and telecommunication network of the University,
- Establish the campus Gigabit backbone network,
- Coordinate with the establishment of GigaPop and the integration of NTU teaching and academic
research network,
- Upgrade NTU campus and dormitory networks to broadband capacity, its propagation and bandwidth
management,
- Upgrade the connection between NTU campus network and TANet academic research network,
and the enhancement to broadband,
- Build the auto-monitored and management system for NTU network and related service systems,
analyze and report in detail the volume of network and system usage,
- Establish the center of Northern Taiwan academic networking, and hold conferences and seminars
for the professional training of faculty and staffs,
- Establish proxy, DNS server for all the units of the University; and the server system
for managing IP addresses of the whole University,
- Support key information activities and the basic construction of computerizing University
administration,
- Establish and promote Internet II (I2),
- Provide support services of NTU Bulletin Board System (BBS),
- Cope with network misbehavior as ordained by the National Education Department, and
- Organize the leasing of NTU-owned overseas bandwidth.
